The player in this game plays as the main protagonist Shion. The Sonozaki family of Hinamizawa made the twin sisters Mion and Shion apart. In which Sonozaki Mion becomes the next heir of the family whereas Shion attends St. Lucia academy away from her dearest sister and relatives. Later on, Shion escapes the school to return, to her family in Hinamizawa. As she reunites with Mion she enrols in a part-time job pretending to be Mion and falls in love with Satoshi Houjou a boy of her age.
She realizes the bad happenings in Satoshi’s family and begins to resent everyone. This brought tensions among both, and Satoshi goes missing abruptly. Shion starts to suspect her own family for the disappearance of Satoshi. She is awakened with a vicious desire to discover the truth behind Satoshi’s disappearance which brought her to the spiralling dark path filled with despair and madness.
