Alone is a science fiction survival horror/dungeon explorer game in which a solitary, stranded hero is up against 1-3 wicked masterminds who will do all in their power to prevent the hero from completing a journey to uncover the truth and save his comrades. The Evil players usually have the whole scenario map in front of them, concealed behind a massive screen. They oversee all of the events that occur during the game and attempt to prevent the Hero from fulfilling his objectives.
What is the game about?
The game’s plot will be told through numerous situations, each of which will be separated into multiple chapters. Each chapter contains a goal for the Hero to fulfil, while the Evil players must stop him. The conclusion of each chapter will affect the gameplay of the following one: each scenario is designed with a branching narrative that may respond to the activities of the players: if the Hero fulfils his objectives, his life will be simpler in the next chapter. This is equally applicable for the Evil players.
The Hero can only view the Sector of the map in which he is now located, and he must explore the map from there. He must be wary since all manner of dangers may be lurking in the shadows. The areas of the map he explored will be deleted off the table after each round; leaving only the Sector he is invisible to. The Hero will have to rely on his memory if he doesn’t want to become lost.
Features of the game
The game contains some brilliant features that back it up quite well as a horror genre game. Here are some of the features that make it such an interesting game to play.
Alone fits in nicely with all of the other sci-fi horror stories, and the graphics complement it well. Steven Hamilton has done an excellent job of creating a compelling world of dark hues, murky shadows, and frightening animals. It’s dangerous to be alone aboard a spacecraft. Worse when more things are lurking around every corner.
With the game’s elements, the tone is well-established. The labyrinth tiles have two sides to depict the presence (and horrifying lack) of light. All of the smaller components have the same fuzzy colored design that is reminiscent of digital displays in spaceships and on spacesuits.
- Interesting gaming modes
If you enjoy two-player games, Alone contains a wealth of material that will keep a gaming pair occupied for a long time. For gamers who wish to create their map, missions, and experience, the randomized option is always accessible.
- Variety in gameplay
For those looking for a sci-fi adventure, there are hours of stuff available. And the creators have contributed to the game’s variety by using a semi-random configuration. With each fresh play, the map, rooms, and tasks will all change. It has depth and encourages repetition. I’m more inclined to keep it on the shelf if I can choose between a casual play session and a lengthier story experience.
The game delivers what it claims that it could deliver. If you love games of the horror genre then this should be on your list of potential games to try.
